Hike to the waterfalls of Tret

The Waterfall Path in San Felice leads into the gorge of the Rio Novella stream

The Rio Novella arises on the Passo Palade pass in the Val di Non valley and flows in a southerly direction, forcing its way through a deep gorge - also the waterfall at the Bus del Pis between the small villages of Tret and San Felice cascades into this gorge. The forest path south of San Felice leads to this spectacular 70 m high waterfall.

We start slightly north of the border between South Tyrol and the Trentino, opposite the restaurant Greti. Near the small artisan area we hike towards south-west and follow the signpost "Cascata" (waterfall) downhill on a forest path. After a 15-minute walk we reach the viewing platform above the waterfall and are impressed by the deep canyon and the rugged rock faces. We can see very little of the waterfall so we decide to descend into the gorge.

Therefore we follow the wide forest path back and turn towards south. The trail leads us through meadows and fields to the village of Tret and further on in a north-westerly direction towards the gorge. The last section - the descent into the gorge - follows a path made up of more than 100 stairs. Reached the bottom it is shady and fresh, we hear the splash of streaming water. And then we see the 70 m high waterfall. Amazing! Finally we follow the same trail back to our starting point.

Please note: If you want to reach the village centre of San Felice you can follow the equivalent signpost at the last junction.
