Bird Care Centre Castel Tirolo

Birds of prey can be observed at close range on the castle hill in the village of Tirolo

Not only the panoramic view you enjoy from the hill at Castel Tirolo is fascinating, but also the Bird Care Centre of Castel Tirolo is unique and the only of its kind in South Tyrol. This centre aimed at treating injured or poisoned birds has been inaugurated in 1998. If birds are not expected to be able to survive in their natural habitat, these animals find a new temporary home in the Bird Care Centre. Moreover in the Centre visitors are informed about life of birds and main owls and birds of prey.

Birds are hosted in aviaries which can be reached following a 300 m long educational path, also informing you about local environment, flora and fauna. Moreover there is a botanic educational trail, providing information in five languages. Eagle owls, steppe eagles, kestrels, red kites, Eurasian buzzards, little owls and many more bird species are looking forward to your visit!

Absolute highlights are, not only for children, the flight shows, for which the hill at Castel Tirolo is a perfect venue. Eagles, falcons, buzzards and colleagues are released into the open sky above Tirolo Castle and in this way you can observe raptorial birds from close quarters, a lasting experience.

By the way:

  • worthwhile is the walk from Castel Tirolo the Bird Care Centre. This path is also walkable with children, schedule some 20 min. in order to enjoy the view!
  • for visitors with buggies: mind the steps at the entrance of the bird flight show area!
  • with the entrance fee you contribute to bird care!
