MuseumPasseier

This museum is accommodated in the Sandhof, the birthplace and residence of Andreas Hofer, famous Tyrolean freedom fighter

"Heroes & Hofer", this is how the circuit in the cellar of the Sandhof in San Leonardo is called. It is meant to provide information regarding the way of thinking of freedom fighters as well as the reasons for their actions. The history of Andreas Hofer (1767-1810), from a European point of view opens up new horizons and liberates from obstinate patriotism and one-sided knowledge. The permanent exhibition has been established in the course of preparations for the 200th anniversary of the Tyrolean Freedom Fights (1809).

Particularly interesting, also for visitors without previous knowledge, are the written information accompanying the exhibition (in German, Italian, English and French language), also suitable for children. The further areas are the circuit "Heroes & Us", which places the public at the centre, and "Valley & People", an open-air exhibition with a typical farmstead of the valley. Of course in the museum there are also special exhibitions and initiatives enriching MuseumPasseier with special content.

Further details about other seats of the museum can be found in the articles below. There is for example the Bunker Mooseum at Moso, the Historical site Malga Pfandler of San Martino in Passiria, the French cemetery in San Leonardo in Passiria and Giovo Castle (Jaufenburg). All of these places are testimonies of an intense time in the past. In 2012 the MuseumPasseier was nominated for the European Museum of the Year Award!
