Tradition and culture

Culture and traditions are of utmost importance to the inhabitants of Merano and surroundings.

To those who are interested in culture, Merano and surroundings offers various possibilities to enrich their lives with a piece of South Tyrolean culture. One of the most traditional festivals taking place in Merano is the Grape Festival held on the third weekend of October. This festival has been organised since 1886. However, Merano and surroundings also offers several cultural institutions such as museums and castles, such as the City Museum, Castel Tirolo, Trauttmansdorff Castle or the Touriseum focusing on the history of tourism.

Moreover there are several Christmas traditions that have been preserved in the course of time. And also on the Christmas Market of Merano you can see, smell, taste and even touch culture.
