Enjoy roasted chestnuts, wine and typical sweets on a Törggele evening near Merano.
In Merano and surroundings tradition and culture are very important - one of the most popular traditions certainly is the famous “Törggelen” in October and November. Long time ago every year, after wine pressing in autumn, the farmers in South Tyrol invited their workers to taste the new wine and to eat some typical savoury dishes like dumplings, cabbage, home-made sausages, bacon and cheese as well as typical sweets. Finally, roasted chestnuts with butter where served together with the new grape must, the “Suser”.
Today this tradition is still alive: after a beautiful walking tour in autumn, people meet in homely and authentic restaurants, the so-called “Buschenschänke”, in order to enjoy the typical South Tyrolean dishes and the wine together with their families and friends.
