The mountains of Val d'Ultimo are spurs of the Ortles Alps and provide a series of popular destinations for mountaineers. Trails and walking paths lead you to the top of the Gran Ladro (2,730 m a.s.l.), the Sasso (2,542 m a.s.l.) or the Orecchia di Lepre (3,257 m a.s.l.).
Once reached the top, you enjoy the pleasure of a great view on the Val d'Ultimo and the neighbouring Val Venosta. In the middle of these mountains, there are also the Covolo Lakes, Lake Fontana Bianca and - above it - the Lago Verde with the Canziani Hut.
The Val d'Ultimo High Route provides you an insight into the mountains of this part of the province of Bolzano, it can best be walked in a three-day tour. Stretching on a length of 50 kilometres, it passes several mountain huts, ideal for a short stop. In winter, the Schwemmalm Ski Area at Pracupola attracts those who love winter sports.
