Rules and Regulations for Dog Owners

In order to be able to spend relaxing holidays with your dog in Merano and its surroundings, please consider a few things, which have to be observed when crossing the border and on site.

Entry requirements:
A properly completed EU passport for your dog has to be carried along, this you get from your veterinarian. In the passport the required anti-rabies vaccination must appear. It must be done at least 21 days before coming to South Tyrol and it must not date back more than one year before your holiday.

Moreover your four-legged friend needs a microchip for clear identification. Dogs, which were marked before the 3rd of July 2011 for the first time, may have a clearly readable tattoo. Puppies younger than three months must not entry Italy.

Obligations for dog owners:
In Italy there is the mandatory use of dog leads, also a muzzle always has to be carried along.

And last but not least – it is your duty to scoop the poop of your four-legged friend.
