The Scena Farm Trail leads us to the mountain farms between the village itself and the slopes of Montescena. The 9 km long circular hike, starting in the Val di Nova valley and overcoming an altitude difference of 450 m, is especially nice in autumn and spring

We start our hike in the Val di Nova valley, at the parking space near the valley station of the Merano 2000 Cable Car. The path no. 24 follows an asphalt road to the hamlet of Vernaun with its eponymous castle and proceeds uphill through the forest. At the signpost "Raststeinweg / Höfeweg" we hike towards "Zmailer" - the path follows an asphalt road and then a steep forest path to the Zmailer mountain farm at 1,100 m a.s.l. From the meadows we enjoy a wonderful view on Merano and its surroundings.

This place represents the highest point of our hike, now the Farm Trail (no. 18, later on 18A) leads us downhill on an asphalt road. At the Jägerrast mountain inn we choose the Via Ratscheid road towards the sunnily located Rastlhof rest point. The hut at 910 m a.s.l. invites to rest and enjoy the sunbeams before we continue our hike to the Salfnerhöfe farms and the Salfgut rest point. Finally we walk downhill and turn into the well-known Scena Waalweg path. Walking towards south along this irrigation channel we reach our starting point again.
