The Grand Prix of Merano South Tyrol is a highly remunerated horse race, dating back to the 19th century
As early as 1896 the first horse race in Merano took place, to the delight of the noble spa guests. Since 1935, the opening year of the Maia Bassa Hippodrome, the Merano South Tyrol Grand Prix has fascinated its visitors. Today it is doubtlessly the highlight in the racing season.
Moreover this race is coupled with the National Lottery and since its beginnings it has been remunerated with the highest prize money. This steeplechase is particularly popular also due to the fact that it takes place in sight of the public and can be observed with the naked eye. Also the obstacles such as the fence, water ditch and oxer are located right in front of the grand stands.
Of course in this event you can also enjoy creature comforts as well as a diversified fringe programme for adults and children between the single competitions.
