The mildly radioactive thermal waters offer harmony and recreation for body, soul and spirit
The water from the nearby Monte San Vigilio already has been extracted since the 1960s and has been used at the Merano Thermal Baths since 2005 for radon inhalations and radon baths. Due to its radon content, with the latest measurements showing a radon concentration of 481 Bq/l (Becquerel/litre), the water is classified as ‘slightly radioactive’. It is said to have various therapeutic effects:
-
soothing and pain-relieving effects on the central and peripheral nervous systems (ideally-suited to treat osteoarthritis and other disorders of the bones, joints and muscles)
-
dilatation of the peripheral vessels with antihypertensive effects (especially indicated for women with chronic disorders of the veins)
-
positive effects on the respiratory system (strengthening the natural resistance of the respiratory tract)
The therapies are however only available to patients who have undergone a prior medical check-up with the resident physician of the Merano Thermal Baths.
