The hike on the Giovo Ridge starts below Passo Giovo on the side of Val Passiria valley. Shortly before arriving at the pass there is the so called Roman bend (“Römerkehre”), where the street to the Flecknerhütte parking branches off. This is our starting point. First we follow the signpost 13B to the saddle Rinner Sattel and to the lakes Wasserfaller, then we continue on path no. 12 (“Urweg”) to Mt. Fleckner, situated on 2,331 m, from where you can enjoy a beautiful panoramic view.

Now, the path goes slightly downhill, passing the Saxner peak, and then again up to the Glaitner Hochjoch. This is where we reach the highest point of our hike on the Giovo Ridge (2,390 m a.s.l.). Now we descend to the Schlattacher Joch, where several paths cross. We walk up to the lake plateau, where the lakes Scheibelsee, Übelsee and other small lakes are situated. This beautiful and lonely place at the foot of the Kleine Kreuzspitze peak is the destination of our hike.

We first walk back on the same path, but after the descent from the Glaitner Hochjoch we choose the path no. 12A, which leads us back to the Flecknerhütte with less altitude difference. After more than 4 hours walking time we are happy to stop by the hut. Now there are only 500 m left to the parking and we pass by the Kehler Lacke biotope along our way.
