Hike Malga Egger Grub, Malga Hochalm and Ursprung

The high alpine meadows on the Giovo Ridge impress with a species-rich flora and the view on the main ridge of the Alps. Our hike leads up starting from the mountain village of Stulles.

A narrow mountain road leads from Stulles up to the Oberstuls/Hochegg car park (chargeable), where our hike begins. The first stage takes us to the Malga Egger Grub Alm. Either on the asphalted farm road or on the steeper path through the forest - the meadows of the Stuller Mahder begin directly below the alpine pasture. The Malga Egger Grub is also a popular snack station at almost 2,000 m a.s.l. - from there the route continues on a steep path to the Malga Hochalm.

At about 2,180 m, the Malga Hochalm is at the altitude that characterises the next stage of the route: We hike towards east along the Val Passiria High Trail, which follows the ridge to the east: The Stulles meadows below us, and above us the peaks of Guardia Alta (Hochwart) and Punta Altacroce (Hohe Kreuzspitze). The path finally leads us to a small valley basin in the headwaters of the Sagbach stream. Behind the green wet meadows, rock walls rise to the sky, a few sheep and goats are still grazing in these heights. From here the high trail would continue towards the Lago Malo lakes and Passo Giovo. But we turn back here to descend on the same path.

During our visit we were not lucky enough to enjoy the magnificent panorama due to the clouds of fog. Nevertheless, the visit of the natural alpine meadows gave us nice impressions.
