To the Monte Catino

Easy hike from Merano 2000 to the Monte Catino (Grosser Mittager)

Today we want to visit the 2,400 m high Monte Catino mountain. It is located above Avelengo and Merano 2000. By the Falzeben cable car we reach Piffing in the Merano 2000 area and follow the wide path no. 18A towards the Waidmann mountain pasture and the Meraner mountain hut. Until here the path was quite flat, now the first noticeable ascent to the Mittagerhütte mountain hut (2,260 m a.s.l.) follows along the path no. 13A. Those who want to save the 300 metres in altitude can also take the Mittager chair lift.

From the Mittagerhütte to the peak of the Monte Catino it's about 150 more metres in altitude which can be managed easily. Only the cold wind bothers us. Unfortunately the visibility is not very good today but still we can enjoy the panorama: from the near summits of the Sarentino Alps (Corno Bianco, Punta Cervina, Monte Ivigna mountains) until the Dolomites in the east and the Ortles mountain group in the west. An alternative descent can be along the paths no. 13 and 14 via the Kesselberg mountain ridge.

The advantage of this tour is that it is not very demanding but still promises a gorgeous panoramic view from the top.
