Here you can find some useful information and suggestions for the Alta Via di Merano
The Alta Via di Merano is a connection of many hiking trails with different characteristics and levels of difficulty, which makes it particularly interesting on the one hand, but also very difficult to valuate in terms of suitability for e.g. children or handicapped people.
The single stages can be either done on a multi-day hiking tour or as single day tours. For the latter case we have investigated the connections with cable cars and busses leading to the starting and end points of every stage. The Alta Via di Merano is often described as easy and safe - but we can't quite confirm this based on our experience! A decent physical condition, good hiking equipment, caution and awareness of other hikers, especially on steep and narrow sections, is obligatory. However, a climbing equipment is not required.
Finally, the Alta Via di Merano leads through a nature park. Stony sections, roots and sometimes also mudflow desposits can occur despite of very accurate maintanance works of the competent bodies.
Altogether, the Alta Via di Merano leading around the Tessa mountain group is a great hiking experience offering a lot of variety and beautiful views!
