Cadipietra Waalweg path

Above the village of San Martino in Passiria, the Cadipietra Waalweg path offers beautiful views on the valley.

Having left our car at the parking space in the centre of San Martino in Passiria, we hike towards the church. Very soon we reach the so-called "Bildhauerhaus" (Sculptor's House), where a wall plaque remembers of the sculptor Anton Ferner (1703-1788), who created the altar of the parish church of San Martino. At the parish church of San Martino in Passiria, we follow the trail n° 3.

After a short ascent across the meadows we reach the Cadipietra Shield Farm (Schildhof Steinhaus), after which the Waalweg path was named. Arrived at the second farm, we hike upwards into the forest until we finally reach the beginning of the Waalweg path. Even though the water channels are not used anymore, there are still some nice little waterfalls, where we refresh ourselves. After about 10 minutes we pass the so-called "Teufelstein" (literally: Devil's Stone), a big stone near the trail.

Again and again we enjoy beautiful views on the village of San Martino in Passiria and the peak of Punta Cervina. After further 40 minutes we arrive at the end of the Waalweg path and follow the road leading down to the valley, where after some metres a small trail branches off to the right into the forest. Following trail n° 4 (red-white-red) through meadows and forests we finally arrive at our starting point again, San Martino in Passiria.
