The Val Senales Glacier, a popular hiking paradise in summer and a skiing area almost all year round, is easy to reach by cable car from Maso Corto. At the top, at proud 3,212 m a.s.l., an unforgettable panoramic view awaits you.
From the Croda delle Cornacchie mountain station with its Glacier Hotel, the highest hotel in Europe, there is a 40-metre climb to the new "Iceman Ötzi Peak" viewing platform, which was opened in summer 2020. The name was chosen deliberately because Ötzi was already at home in this magnificent mountain world 5,300 years ago. From the South Tyrolean steel construction you can enjoy a view on the snow field of Mt. Similaun (3,606 m a.s.l.), where Ötzi, the world-famous glacier mummy, was found in 1991.
From here you can also see the Hochjochferner, a glacier in the Ötztal Alps, and the watershed that forms the border between Austria and Italy. The path of transhumance, part of the intangible cultural heritage of UNESCO, is also visible. This is the path of the sheep to the summer pastures: Every year in mid-June shepherds move 3,000 - 4,000 sheep 44 km across the glacier to the Ötztal valley in North Tyrol.
Once back down in the valley, you can also visit the popular archeoParc Val Senales, which provides insights into the life of Ötzi, the Iceman.
