The western part of South Tyrol is characterised by many water channels ("Waale"). In particular, the Stava Waal and Senales Waal irrigate the agricultural fields with the water of the Senales Glacier. We start our hiking tour at the lower Val Senales (reachable by car or bus from Naturno) above the hamlet of Rattiso.
Following trail n° 3, we hike towards south-east, until we finally reach Castle Juval, which hosts one of the Messner Mountain Museums by the famous alpinist Reinhold Messner. It is very worth to be visited! Near the castle, we have a short rest at the Sonnenhof tavern. From here, the Ciadres Waalweg path leads westwards to the homonymous village. Trail n° 1A (Stava Waalweg path) leads back down to the valley.

- The map shows the entire Waalweg path from Castelbello, which explains the discrepancy between the description (the shorter route from Rattiso) and the details. From Rattiso/Rateis, the walking time is reduced by almost half. The details refer only to the outward journey; the way back is done by bus.
